Cambridge at AAAL 2021

We’re sorry that we won’t be able to meet in person at the AAAL conference this year and invite you to visit our virtual exhibit table, including a discount code for 30% off select books, links to free journal articles, and information on how to submit a book proposal to a Cambridge editor.

Plus, AAAL delegates can join our editor Rebecca Taylor at the panel session on 23 March at 11am talking all things publishing in applied linguistics!

What’s new in applied linguistics from Cambridge?

Cambridge is working to open up the scholarship published in our journals. If there’s an agreement in place between CUP and your university, you may be able to publish in our applied linguistics journals Open Access and free of charge; check your eligibility using this easy tool.

The 2021 volume of ARAL will focus on Language aptitude. Find a preview of the upcoming issue here.

Plus, AAAL is pleased to present the recording of a webinar in collaboration with the Annual Review of Applied Linguistics in which we highlight 3 articles from the 2020 volume that consider race, racial justice and Indigenous language revitalization in Applied Linguistics.

Exciting new books

Viral Discourse (ed Rodney Jones) – This is the first Element to be published in the Cambridge Elements in Applied Linguistics series, and contains ten short pieces by renowned discourse analysts focusing on different aspects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Do take a look at the Elements published in our other series, including series on Language Teaching, Corpus Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition.

Alison Mackey’s recent title, Interaction, Feedback and Task Research in Second Language Learning, presents clear and practical advice on carrying out research into the important role of corrective feedback in second language learning and teaching.

The lively and thought-provoking Language as Symbolic Power by Claire Kramsch brings together insights from linguistics, philosophy and sociology, including real-world contemporary political examples.

We hope you enjoy the online conference, and that we are able to meet in person at AAAL 2022.
